We are so thankful that these models, celebrities, influencers and survivors are banding together to save as many lives as possible.”

— Kimberly Clark, publisher & editor-in-chief of SU Magazine

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, January 29, 2019 / — This February, as New York Fashion Week (NYFW) slips into style overload at Spring Studios, Supermodels Unlimited Magazine (SU) is taking a moment to reflect. Suicide is the second leading cause of death amongst all young people. Every life is precious, whether you identify as straight and cisgender, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning (LGBTQ). Sadly, LGBTQ youth are nearly five times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. To raise awareness of suicide prevention resources and programs, we invite you to join SU, for their annual runway show; benefiting The Trevor Project – the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ youth.

This season’s benefit is titled #YOLO: You Only Live Once. As countless teens across America are facing discrimination and bullying – SU has curated a collective of strong voices to inspire and motivate teens to stand up to societal pressure; encouraging young adults to reach out for support. “No child or teen should ever feel their dreams are out of reach;” says Kimberly Clark, publisher and editor-in-chief of Supermodels Unlimited Magazine, “they need our help now more than ever. We are so thankful that these models, celebrities, influencers and survivors are banding together to save as many lives as possible.” In the spirit of NYFW’s legendary “House of Paul,” this showcase is a tribute to those who have been lost, so that others may be saved. In support of The Trevor Project, Supermodels Unlimited Magazine proudly presents: THE #YOLO SHOW; 6:30pm on February 9th, 2019.

The show is hosted by Jordan Kimball from ABC’s The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, with celebrity DJ James Kennedy from Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules. Walking the SU runway are models from diverse backgrounds including: Laura Kirkpatrick and Jeana Turner from America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), and Kasey Cohen from Bravo’s Below Deck. Joining them are other noted influencers, who will walk honoring family members, friends and designers such as Kate Spade and L’Wren Scott. Fashion designers Michael Costello, Edmond Newton, and Kelly Dempsey from Lifetime’s Project Runway are lending their support to the cause by presenting custom designs at the show. Making her runway debut is Mira Mariah, a social media maven and the personal tattoo artist for Ariana Grande. Mira is on a mission representing empowerment of all women and diversity. Joining her, is military and fashion photographer Erika Barker, who has appeared on MTV’s True Life and Oxygen’s STRUT – she’s walking in support of trans military personnel facing political persecution in America.

The show will conclude with a music tribute by Effie Passero from ABC’s American Idol, followed by a check presentation to The Trevor Project. SU will host a champagne reception from 8-9PM giving guests and media an opportunity to spend time with the participants and discuss the important work still needed to end this crisis. SU wants every individual who may need support to know that help is always available; individuals who do not identify as LGBTQ are able to access services, thanks to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or through the Crisis Text Line – text TALK to 741-741.

Pope Francis and the Catholic Church are presently going through a crisis of papal proportions in many parts of the world. In January of 2018, Francis accused victims in Chile of calumny against a bishop who protected sex offenders in the Church. In August of 2018, a Pennsylvania Grand Jury released a report detailing abuse of over 1,000 minors by more than 300 Catholic clergy. A recent study noted that over the course of 65 years (1945 and 2010), 20 of 39 Dutch cardinals, bishops and their auxiliaries covered up sexual abuse. Another recent study documented the abuse of 3,677 minors by 1,670 priests and other clerics in Germany between 1946 and 2014.

Pafumi's four (4) books about clergy abuse delve into abuse worldwide They are, in part, based upon the research he compiled for the SACCADAS (Survivor Accounts of Catholic Clergy Abuse, Denial, Accountability and Silence) database. The database has thus far tracked the abuse of more than 17,000 minors and vulnerable adults by nearly 3,700 clerics in 55 countries. But his books not only report the hard facts (data and its analysis), but also the history of abuse by Catholic clergy and its cover-up by bishops, including the Bishop of Rome, the Pope himself. In "Inhumanity in the Name of Jesus: Volume II: Clergy Sex Abuse, The Indifference of the Last Six Popes," Pafumi describes how the last six popes did practically nothing to deal with this problem. The book covers the protection given to Father Julio Cesar Grassi by Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergogli, now known as Pope Francis. Bergoglio’s secret intervention with judges after Grassi’s conviction is believed to be, at least in part, the reason that Grassi, despite a 15-year sentence, remained free for years pending the outcomes of his many appeals. Grassi finally was sent to prison in September 2013, more than a decade after he was first charged, following the rejection of his third appeal. In the interim, he was free to abuse more children.

Pafumi's books provide a comprehensive history of clergy abuse and a description of a Church under fire worldwide. His books are available at a substantial discount through the end of February 2018 on Anyone requiring a PDF copy of any of the four books should fill out the Contact Us form on the website.

Enough Evidence to Charge Sri Lanka’s new Chief of Army Staff with War Crimes.

Shavendra Silva 2009

Shall Attack – Injured in Pokkanai 2009

Shavendra Silva (pointing, May 2009)

New dossier out on Shavendra Silva.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, January 29, 2019 / — There is more than enough evidence to suspend Sri Lanka’s new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Shavendra Silva, and charge him with war crimes and crimes against humanity, said the International Truth and Justice Project. The South Africa-based investigative group published a 137-page dossier on Silva, detailing his role as one of the most important Field Commanders during the 2008-9 War. The dossier presents the most extensive body of evidence against him – or any Sri Lankan War-time commander – to date. It amalgamates photographs, contemporaneous SMS and witness testimony, including from insiders, and evidence of official Army releases which were deleted offline after the war to hide the truth, as well as drawing on the findings of past UN investigative reports.

“There is a staggering amount of evidence in this dossier meticulously collected by my team over many years,” said ITJP’s Executive Director, Yasmin Sooka, “Many successful cases at international tribunals or the International Criminal Court had less to work with. There is now no excuse for this man to remain as number two in the Sri Lankan Army; he must be suspended immediately and a criminal investigation instituted.”

Ms. Sooka was one of three international legal experts appointed in 2010 by the United Nations Secretary General to look into the conduct of the final War in Sri Lanka. This was followed in 2012 by an internal review of the UN’s own grave failures in Sri Lanka and then an investigation by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“After the UN investigation completed its work in 2015, the ITJP continued to document and collect evidence regarding the War. This means our NGO now has the most extensive archive of evidence pertaining to the final phase of the Civil War and violations in its aftermath. This dossier is just a fraction of the information we hold,” said Ms. Sooka. “This illustrates the importance of a dedicated team of experts to do this work with knowledge that builds up over years.”

Promising reform, in 2015 Sri Lanka’s new Government co-sponsored a UN resolution backing an ambitious transitional justice programme, including a hybrid court – which it then refused to implement. Despite promises to address the past, no senior military official has been convicted for their role in the conflict which ended a decade ago. Instead many alleged perpetrators have been promoted.

Shavendra Silva’s promotion to Chief of Army Staff in January 2019 was the most shocking. It caused alarm and horror in the former conflict areas of Sri Lanka where Tamil war survivors still live. However, some in the south still regard him as a hero.

“The international community cannot seriously talk about progress on rule of law and accountability so long as Shavendra Silva enjoys impunity. How can the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations continue to recruit peacekeepers from Sri Lanka when the army is run by this man? It would condone the gravest international crimes. If Sri Lanka fails to act, we look especially to countries in the region with close military ties to Sri Lanka to deny Shavendra Silva visas or, better still, to arrest him under universal jurisdiction,” added Ms. Sooka.

In 2017, the ITJP filed a series of war crimes cases under universal jurisdiction against Shavendra Silva’s immediate Commander in the War, General Jagath Jayasuriya, who was an ambassador in Latin America. Jayasuriya fled on the eve of the filing of the cases and has shown no sign of returning to Brazil or Chile to test the allegations against him in an independent court of law.

Help End the Cycle of Abuse

Joe Biden was raised by a gentle, honorable man who always taught his children that the greatest sin anyone could commit is the abuse of power — and the cardinal sin is when a man raises his hand to a woman or a child or someone with less physical power, including raising a hand to a weaker man.

When he started to work on this issue, violence against women, children and men, were not taken as seriously, and survivors were not given the recourse they deserved. Too often, victims of violent crimes were blamed. Too often, perpetrators were not prosecuted.

Joe Biden, Hope for Children Foundation, and many others, are convinced America needs to change its culture. And in order to change the culture, we have to pull the mask off of this dirty little secret. A simple message for all Americans: You should be the ultimate agents of change. It’s time for all of you to step up.

Think about a culture that exists when a victim who’s been abused or raped is asked all the wrong questions: Why were you there? What were you wearing? What did you say? Why did you say it? What were you drinking? Those are all the wrong questions. It’s never the victim’s fault.

The right questions are: What made that person think they had a right to touch you? Why on Earth did no one step up when they had the chance? Or for you men: Why didn’t I have the courage to speak up — to intervene, to act? Men to ask yourselves: What would I have done if she was my sister?

Healthy Support for the United States of America

Passing the Violence Against Women Act in 1994, has literally saved lives. Women, men and children need to know they won’t be abused again by the system, they’re reporting violence at higher rates. Twenty – five years ago, there was no domestic violence hotline — now 3.4 million women and men have called the National Domestic Violence Hotline and gotten support and help.

The yearly domestic violence rates dropped 64 percent between 1993 and 2010. There were no special victims units — now, police departments across the country have specially trained personnel to treat domestic abuse as crime rather than a private matter. The culture is changing so that abusers are now treated as the criminals they are. It’s no longer acceptable for a man to abuse a woman in public or privately in the home. Sexism is no longer tolerated. We no longer remain silent when a woman is being abused in front of us. The #MeToo and #Time’sUp Movements have helped to empower victims of violent crimes. The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace.

We all should take a pledge and act on three things: (1) I promise to intervene instead of being a bystander. (2) I promise to recognize that any time consent is not given — or cannot be given — it’s sexual assault and it’s a crime; and (3) I promise to do everything I can to create an environment where sexual assault is unacceptable, where survivors are supported, where perpetrators are treated with the moral and legal accountability they deserve.

Joe Biden by instinct and long-time service experience has shown he has the ability to reach across the aisle and return this country to civility and compromise with integrity, respect, dignity and honor in the best interest of protecting Americans, and other people around the world. Joe Biden is interested in all Americans and supports a healing process for all to experience. Hope for Children Foundation encourages you to attend Joe Biden’s American Promise Tour. We did, and realized America is better off having a man and a women standing strong for Americans like former Vice President Joe Biden, and his precious wife, Jill Biden.

Steven R. Pietro considers the many obstacles faced by America's military veterans

Steven Pietro 1

Veteran support advocate and military food supplies business owner Steven R. Pietro explores the obstacles faced by today's military veterans.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, January 25, 2019 / — From unemployment and homelessness to substance abuse and concerns surrounding mental health, many thousands of distinguished U.S. military veterans face numerous often unimaginable obstacles following the completion of their service. That's according to Steven R. Pietro, owner and founder of Justice Government Supply, Inc., as he reveals more about the troubles faced by countless veterans in America today.

"Serving time in the military calls for hard work, immense discipline, and a steely determination," says Pietro, "yet, on transitioning from active service back into civilian life, veterans routinely face a raft of obstacles and other difficulties which many people unknowingly overlook."

Post-military and away from their former high-pressure and often incredibly stressful lives and environments, veterans are also widely understood to be at a significantly increased risk of developing depression and encountering often lengthy periods of anxiety, isolation, and general unhappiness. "Many veterans also struggle with reintegrating back into family life, securing a new career, or, more generally, finding purpose," Pietro explains.

Accordingly, and combined with countless cases of post-traumatic stress disorder, America's veterans are increasingly at risk of homelessness and of falling prey to alcohol addiction and substance abuse. "These," says Pietro, "are just a small number of the challenges faced by U.S. veterans, and which many of them face each and every day."

As such, Justice Government Supply, Inc. founder Pietro continues to strive to support the country's veterans by backing efforts surrounding mental health, addiction, and homelessness, as well as in assisting veterans in applying their military backgrounds into securing meaningful new careers and work opportunities. "By identifying and then assisting to prevent our veterans from spiraling into the often times, inescapable hole of depression, that is almost always accompanied by drug and/or alcohol abuse, we are able to create a stable platform in which to grow in a positive manner. Isolation from friends, family, and loved ones, plus homelessness and increasingly deteriorating mental and physical health are all factors that we can offer assistance for these incredible men and women in living the lives they deserve to enjoy," he explains.

"Having offered up their own lives to protect and serve our country and our way of life," Pietro adds, wrapping up, "our invaluable veterans are heroes of the greatest magnitude and are wholly deserving of every shred of help and support which we can offer to them in their own times of need." “Counseling, meetings, food, rent and living subsistence are just some of the ways that we all can help. More often than not, being available to talk someone through a tough time is all that is needed; for a Veteran to know that someone actually cares and is listening”.

A graduate of Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and San Diego's California Western School of Law, Steven R. Pietro currently resides in West Palm Beach, Florida. An experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in both the public and private sectors, as well as within the military industry, Pietro is highly skilled in sales, team building, public speaking, management, and leadership, among other talents. தற்போதைய தலைவர்கள் அதிகாரத்தில் இருக்கும் வரை தமிழர்கள் எந்தவொரு அரசியல் தீர்வையும் பெறமாட்டார்கள்.”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, January 25, 2019 / —

Shattered Moon is Simply Unputdownable

When a Romantic Dream Turns Into a Nightmare

The best book ever written on Domestic Abuse. It should be read by everyone before they begin a new relationship. A cautionary tale, but also a thrilling story.

To all those who don’t believe in themselves, you are worth fighting for.
And for all those who feel alone, you don’t always see the stars, but you know they are still there. You are loved.”

— Renata Lanzoni

OXFORD, UNITED KINGDOM, January 24, 2019 / — The one thing I hear people saying the most about Renata Lanzoni’s book, Shattered Moon, is that it’s the best book ever written on the topic of Domestic Violence! Praised worldwide for its details on how such a devastating experience could ever happen, here is a book that dares to at last tell the truth about how love can morph into an unexpected sequence of turmoil.

From inception, this book carries us to the romantic beaches of paradise where the unexpected is given to us via love that appears at first to be quite promising. The author does not hold back in presenting the perfect lover in handsome Kiri, in the quintessential love setting of sun-kissed beaches. No one expects her abuser to turn into a low-esteemed, jealous monster. Never has a writer detailed the initial points of entry into such unfortunate mayhem as it’s presented in this daunting new book.

In the US alone, nearly 5 million women experience physical violence by an intimate partner every year, but we’ve never heard of it like this before! Shattered Moon is a cautionary tale about Maddy’s optimistic views against a lover that ends up delivering a resounding succession of domestic abuse, in forms we have not seen before. What makes this novel work is the abuser himself, and how the author presents him as an abandoned victim of circumstance, since childhood. While you’re hoping the madness with handsome Kiri changes, he soon is presented with a scowl or with jealously that lets the reader understand that something is wrong with Maddy’s dangerous suitor.

Readers are transfixed by Maddy’s yearning for Kiri, until his mad entrance into a room, the accusations, the demands, the jealously go on without cessation. This book will keep readers turning the pages to see what’s next.

In Shattered Moon you are rooting for the main character to leave when she can. In the next breath you want it to work; and, it doesn’t. As the truth of Maddy’s abuse unravels, you miss what this romantic setting could have been like had Kiri lived up to the fantasy that Maddy deserved. Will Maddy relinquish? Can she leave the abuser? The author is the best yet at presenting a woman’s slow fall into the web of a relationship that has all the traits of the perfect romance.

Lanzoni covers all of the bases of love terror in ways in which no one else has done before. An excellent description of both victim and perpetrator, this book, (of which profits will go to Domestic Violence victims) will open your eyes to the reality around you. It is available today on

What readers say about Shattered Moon

“Shattered Moon is an emotional roller-coaster ride that captures the vulnerability of human nature, weaving a tale of hope, friendship, tragedy, and despair that has a lasting impression. What starts as an almost charming tantrum of jealousy soon develops into constant mental and physical torture. Shattered Moon is a compelling and essential read for everyone. From understanding the subtle signs of domestic abuse to the psychology behind staying with an abuser, there is a lot to be learnt from Maddy’s story. Lanzoni captures both, the highs and the lows of life. Her friendship with Cindy, her daughter, and some of the other friends she makes along the way are a sure sign of hope, a reminder that where it is evil, there is also good.” Goodreads

“Lanzoni does an excellent job of portraying the heroine's emotions and confusion. Maybe because Maddy narrates with the benefit of hindsight, her mistakes seem understandable. Indeed, I found myself deeply immersed in the character and the story. The fast-paced action is interspersed with more leisurely passages. Sometimes the book reads like travel writing.
I enjoyed both the descriptions and a story that read increasingly like a thriller. I was compelled to see how the relationship developed and how Maddy would cope.” OnLineBook Club

“I really liked the uncertainty of the book because it made me eager to find out what would happen next. Kiri’s character was also volatile. He was both likable and repulsive because his charming demeanor shadowed his monstrosity.” Kirsty Khem

Walid Phares Meets with Polish Officials on the Plight of Middle East Christians

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, January 24, 2019 / — On November 26th, 2018, advisor to the American Mideast Coalition for Democracy, Dr. Walid Phares met with a Polish delegation led by Minister Beata Kempa and Ambassador Piotr Wilczek. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss US and European policies that support and protect persecuted Christians and other minorities in the Greater Middle East. During their visit to the United States, the Polish delegation met with several US officials including Ambassador Sam Brownback, United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.

Phares, a former advisor to Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Mitt Romney on foreign affairs, shared his assessment of the situation of Christian and minority communities in the region who have been subject to oppression and persecution, including those in Iraq and Syria. He explained that Christians in the Middle East are divided into two communities: those living in geographic enclaves, like the Nineveh Valley in Iraq and Khabur plain in Syria, and those living as minorities within large cities or Muslim-majority areas. Phares suggested, and Minister Kempa agreed, that Western support for these endangered groups of Christians should adapt to their geopolitical realities. Countries providing aid to these communities should work with the national governments to protect the status of minority communities within their cities and villages and enable the groups to protect themselves when they live in geographical areas threatened by terror attacks.

The Minister agreed with Phares' assessment and offered her assessment based on her experience working to provide aid to Christians in the Middle East. Minister Kempa committed to muster support in Poland and throughout Europe for the protection of human rights of minority communities in coordination with the United States.

Phares stated, “There are minority communities with different geopolitical and legal statuses. While there are certainly challenges faced by most Christian groups in the region, the Christian and Yazidi communities in Iraq and Syria have been the most threatened with mass killing and ethnic cleansing. I am glad that the UN and later the United States designated ISIS’ actions as ‘genocide’ as I have recommended since 2014.”

He added, “Poland, and other European countries, are instrumental in helping, not only by raising the issue internationally, but also by assisting ground missions alongside the United States to provide direct protection to these persecuted groups.”

New Film on Censorship and the 60s Counterculture to Premiere at Santa Fe Film Festival: Barney’s Wall

“It is a symphony… an epic novel on a wall”—WALL STREET JOURNAL

“In that wall is Samuel Beckett, Henry Miller, Allen Ginsberg, Octavio Paz, Malcolm X, Jack Kerouac, Marguerite Duras, Hubert Selby, Jr., William S. Burroughs.”—NEW REPUBLIC

Racism. War. Censorship. Rage. Rebellion. The Sixties are back. Rejoin the Underground.

The darkness of the current political and cultural landscape makes our film timely and relevant.”

— Sandy Gotham Meehan, Producer/ Director

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, USA, January 23, 2019 / — A timely new feature documentary, BARNEY'S WALL: Portrait of a Game Changer, premieres at the Santa Fe Film Festival on February 14, 2019, at 6:00pm. The film probes the lasting political and cultural impact of BARNEY ROSSET, radical Grove Press publisher, free-speech warrior and political activist, one of the most influential cultural impresarios of the last half of the 20th century. Rosset’s fierce mid-century battles against literary censorship, government surveillance, racial bigotry and the Vietnam war blasted open America’s conservative culture and birthed the 60s counter-culture rebellion, paving the way to today’s unfettered artistic expression.

In an era that is facing social and political upheavals similar to the 50s and 60s, the film is meant to underline the fragility of our First Amendment rights and civil liberties.

The film makes the case that Rosset’s unflagging battles against inequality and an intolerant culture make him a contemporary model for today’s political and cultural activists who seek to keep the country open and the First Amendment intact. Perhaps the closest equivalent today of Rosset’s feisty, abrasive, principled and visionary politics is Bernie Sanders.

Through vast archival footage and incisive commentary from major cultural figures, the film traces Rosset’s lifetime battle to allow all Americans to read, hear and see what the Constitution demands.

An impetuous and fiercely independent outsider, Rosset’s almost mystical belief in the sacredness of the First Amendment fueled his six years of ferocious court battles against mid-century Congressional ‘obscenity’ laws, now largely forgotten, before winning a landmark Supreme Court decision outlawing government censorship. Freed to publish without restraint, Rosset brought the reading public the ‘outliers’ of the era— previously banned authors including D.H. Lawrence, Henry Miller and William S. Burroughs and the now canonical Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Jean Genet, Jack Kerouac, among myriad others.

Rosset’s commitment to civil rights drove him to publish Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Ho Chi Minh and Frantz Fanon, and to produce the film “Strange Victory”, which equated America’s Jim Crow south with European fascism.

Rosset left behind a wall of his memories, encapsulated in intricate vignettes embedded into a 15’ x 22’ wall of his East Village loft. The film uses the vignettes as portals into the formative influences that drove a rebel, war photographer, filmmaker and publisher to an enduring defense of freedom of expression. The loft and the wall have been destroyed by real estate developers undertaking the gentrification of the Lower East Side of NYC. The film is the only record of both.

The documentary has been privately screened at major cultural venues in New York City, San Francisco and Paris. Two successful Kickstarters helped fund production of the film.

Produced by FoxHog Productions, NYC, an independent media company that produces and invests in films and video about artists and thinkers whose provocative work alters the cultural and intellectual status quo.

Directed by Sandy Gotham Meehan and Williams Cole, cinematography by David Leitner, edited by Kasia Plazinska.

Surge in Baker Acts Prompts Mental Health Watchdog to Take Action

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is a non-profit mental health watchdog dedicated to the eradication of abuses committed under the guise of mental health.

With the total number of involuntary examinations more than doubling over the past 16 years, CCHR is on crusade to protect citizens from human rights abuse.

In order to take a person into custody under a Baker Act there are three criteria that must be legally met, yet it is common knowledge that this is not always done and this is a rights violation.”

— Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, January 22, 2019 / — The Florida chapter of the international mental health watchdog, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), is concerned over the large number of individuals being sent annually for involuntary psychiatric examinations, called a Baker Act, in light of the fact that it is known a percentage of these Baker Acts are illegal due to a failure to meet the criteria to take a person into custody.

The Baker Act allows for a person of any age to be taken into custody and transported to a psychiatric receiving facility for examination and the most recent statistics released by the Baker Act Reporting Center, show that there were over 199,000 involuntary psychiatric examinations initiated in Florida during 2017 including over 32,000 children. [1]

In order to take a person into custody under a Baker Act there are three criteria that must be legally met yet, it is common knowledge that this is not always done and it was disclosed during a meeting of the Baker Act Task Force in 2017 that 30 percent of the Baker Acts initiated on children in Pinellas County did not meet the criteria. This alarming fact is one reason CCHR believes the Baker Act needs to be reformed so that parents and guardians are brought into the process before a child is put through the trauma of a Baker Act in an effort to reduce illegal Baker Acting of minors. [2]

“The Baker Act is being abused and is being used incorrectly on people of all ages,” stated Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida. “CCHR receives too many calls on a weekly basis from families whose loved one was illegally taken into custody and this abuse must end.”

In the example of minors, parents and legal guardians are being left out of the process only finding out that their child has been Baker Acted after initiation and usually after the child has been transported by law enforcement to a psychiatric facility. CCHR believes that this is a rights violation, a belief that is shared by Sheriffs, Police Chiefs and even School Districts across Florida.

Since 2017, CCHR has been working to educate those granted the power to initiate a Baker Act on a child on why a parent or guardian should be brought into the process before initiation resulting in county and city level policy changes to contact the parents of a child before initiating a Baker Act.

Those interested in learning more about CCHR’s campaign to protect children from abusive Baker Acting are encouraged to call 800-782-2878.

About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969. For more information visit
