Steven R. Pietro shares statistics surrounding America's 18.2 million veterans

Steven R. Pietro

Justice Government Supply, Inc. founder Steven R. Pietro shares the latest statistics surrounding America's 18.2 million military veterans.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, February 21, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — With the number of U.S. veterans today exceeding 18 million according to data from the United States Census Bureau, service-disabled veteran owned military food supplies business founder and co-owner Steven R. Pietro explores and explains the latest statistics surrounding America's military veterans.

"Gulf War-era veterans today account for the lion's share of all U.S. veterans, surpassing Vietnam-era veterans in recent years," reveals Florida-based Pietro, "according to recent population model estimates by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs."

Both figures are understood to be in the region of 7 million, with American veterans who served in the Gulf War outnumbering those who served during the Vietnam era by approximately 600,000 today. "Some veterans, however," Pietro adds, "served during both eras, while the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' figures also point toward around 1.5 million who served during the Korean conflict and a further 620,000 or so World War II veterans."

Approximately three-quarters of today's veterans served during wartime, while around 20-25% served exclusively during peacetime, according to the Justice Government Supply, Inc. co-owner and founder.

Referring next to numbers from the American Community Survey, widely considered to be the premier source of information surrounding America's changing population and workforce, Pietro uncovers further statistics pertaining to the share of the U.S. population with military experience. "This number is declining," he points out, "with around 7% of U.S. adults today being veterans, down considerably from 18% in 1980."

This drop, Steven R. Pietro says, coincides with recent decreases in active duty personnel. "Less than 1% of all U.S. adults are part of today's military," he adds.

The food supplies business co-owner also explains how recent statistics suggest a significant change in the demographic profile of veterans during the coming decades. "Currently, over 90% of veterans are men," he reveals, "although by 2045, this number is expected to drop to 82% as the share of female veterans increases to an anticipated 18%, according to further population model estimates made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs."

The same models also project a slightly younger veteran population, with 33% aged below 50, compared to around 27% today.

"Lastly," adds Pietro, wrapping up, "the veteran population is expected to become more ethnically and racially diverse during the same period, as is the trend in the U.S. population overall."

NEXUS TO NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL: SHAME ON YOU FOR DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES COMMITTED BY PRISON OFFICIALS

NEXUS TO NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL: SHAME ON YOU FOR DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES COMMITTED BY PRISON OFFICIALS

NEXUS TO NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL: SHAME ON YOU FOR DEFENDING HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES COMMITTED BY PRISON OFFICIALS

Nexus Services announces funding for civil litigation against the Hudson Correctional Facility and the New York Department of Corrections alleging abuses against a minor who has been brutally held in solitary confinement, violating the child’s constitutional rights. Nexus asks that the Attorney General stop defending prisons and guards who abuse constitutional rights, and instead tackle the inhumane issue of placing minor in solitary confinement, especially minors with serious mental illness.

WHAT:Press Conference Announcing Lawsuit by Natalya Paykina on behalf of her
minor child E.L., Against Donna Lewin, Superintendent of Hudson Correctional Facility and Anthony J. Annucci, Acting Commissioner of the New York Department of Correction and Community Supervision, and others.

WHEN: Friday, February 22, 2019
1:00 PM EST

WHO: Natalya Paykina, on behalf of her minor child E.L.
Mike Donovan, President & CEO Nexus Services, Inc.
Mario Williams, President Nexus Derechos Humanos Attorneys, Inc
Evan Ajin, Vice President of Operations, Nexus Services, Inc. (Spanish Speaking)

WHERE: 40 Wall Street, New York, NY
In front of Office of the New York Attorney General

New York — Natalya Paykina has filed a lawsuit and an Emergency Motion For Temporary
Restraining Order on behalf of minor son E.L., 17, who suffers from mental illness. E.L.was transferred to the Adolescent Offender Segregation Unit (“AOSU”) at Hudson Correctional Facility on Nov. 3, 2018. He has been held in solitary confinement for months, worse than convicted terrorists held at the supermax prison in Florence, Colorado. “At Hudson Correctional Facility, E.L. sits alone in small, barren cells, which are smaller than a parking spot, for at least 18 hours each day,” the lawsuit said. “The hours he is allowed to have a recreational period he is made to sit in a chair held by leg irons.” "We at NDH are stunned that after New York City jails banned the practice of placing minors with mental illness in solitary confinement, and after the federal government banned this same conduct, that the State of New York would still engage in the most detrimental and inhuman correctional practice, carried out by State officials, known to our modern society. Our attorneys will litigate this matter to the U.S. Supreme Court.” said Mario Williams, President Nexus Derechos Humanos Attorneys, Inc

Nexus Services, which provides services and support for incarcerated individuals across the US, finds it “outrageous” that the NY Attorney General would even consider defending the human-rights abuses visited upon a minor child held in state custody. “The Attorney General of the State of New York is directly responsible for New York’s violent prison system, because the AG defends guards and facilities accused of harming inmates” said Nexus Services CEO Mike Donovan, “to even consider representing the State of New York prison system in this matter sends a clear message that the AGs office doesn’t care about vulnerable inmates being abused in the state prison system. Letitia James, the New York AG, will hopefully draw from her experiences as a public advocate to recognize the harm of inmate abuse and use her power to stop it. New York is known for running one of most vicious prison systems in the country and the Attorney General is responsible for these conditions for as long as they defend the abusers.”

Nexus Services, Inc. is a leading provider of immigrant bond securitization and of services provided to detained individuals. The organization funds Nexus Derechos Humanos Attorneys, Inc. as a part of its corporate giving plan to open access to justice for disadvantaged people across the United States. http://www.nexushelps.com/

Working to Stop Human Trafficking in the Americas – Conference Announced

Human Rights advocates from last year’s conference were able to play a role in the signing of two important pieces of legislation that protects victims of human trafficking in the United States.

Group of Youth advocates meeting with a Senate office

Youth advocates meeting with Senator Jeff Merkley on the importance of Human Rights Awareness.

Advocate groups met with Congressional Offices from around the country.

Advocates from across the country will gather to promote the importance of human rights as an American core value.

Human rights advocates call upon fellow Americans to stand up for human rights and raise awareness of human trafficking.

Human rights were fundamental in America’s founding. The purpose of this conference is to increase awareness of human rights abuses in our own country and protect human rights as core American values.”

— Erica Rodgers, National Director of Youth for Human Rights

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, USA, February 20, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — In a world where fundamental human rights are being abused, a group of human rights advocates from across the United States are gathering together to stand up for human rights and protect core American values.

Youth for Human Rights International announced that their U.S. National Human Rights Conference will be in Washington, DC, on April 11th – 13th 2019. This three-day event is bringing together youth and passionate advocates from across the United States to focus on key human rights issues related to human trafficking in the United States and neighboring countries. The theme of this year's conference is "Working to Stop Human Trafficking in the Americas."

Last year’s Conference focused on two key pieces of legislation to help reduce human trafficking and protect trafficking victims. These two pieces of legislation have since been signed into law. These new laws are a step in the right direction, but there is much more work to be done to create a United States of America that is free from all forms of slavery. The Global Slavery Index 2018 estimates that on any given day there are over 400,000 people living in conditions of modern day slavery in the United States.

The conference will include visits to Capitol Hill, giving attendees the opportunity to meet and discuss important human rights issues, including human trafficking with their government representatives. Youth ages 14 – 28 are being encouraged to attend, to make their voices heard and encourage all members of Congress to promote human rights as an important national interest.

“Surveys have shown that many American citizens, politicians included, are not aware of the 30 human rights listed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. How can America’s politicians protect our nation’s core values without a basic understanding of these fundamental human rights themselves?" asked Erica Rodgers, the National Director of Youth for Human Rights International. As the organizer of the event she continued by saying, “Human rights were fundamental in America’s founding. The purpose of this conference is to increase awareness of human rights abuses in our own country and protect human rights as core American values. We also hope to propose solutions that help eradicate human trafficking in the United States.”

CCHR Calls for Investigation Following a Surge in Elder Baker Acts

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights is calling for an investigation into the rise of elder Baker Acts which carry the known risk of increased mortality.

The trauma of transferring an elderly person carries the risk of elevated mortality, yet seniors are being taken into custody under the Baker Act in ever increasing numbers.”

— Diane Stein, President CCHR Florida

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, February 20, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Annual Baker Act Report released in 2018 revealed that over 7 percent of the total number of involuntary psychiatric exams involved persons 65 years of age or older and that this was a 75% increase from 2001 to 2016. This alarming surge in elder Baker Acts, the common term for an involuntary psychiatric examination, has prompted the Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) to call for an investigation. [1]

The mental health law in Florida allows for the legalized involuntary examination of individuals of all ages including children and the elderly. More than 14,000 of Florida’s elderly, including those with dementia, were sent for involuntary psychiatric examinations in 2017, forcing the stress of physical transport to Baker Act facilities on these seniors despite it being documented that such an experience, and specifically when dealing with a senior suffering from dementia, puts them at risk for depression and anxiety. [2]

“It is known that when long term care elderly patients are relocated that this results in an elevated mortality risk yet seniors are being taken into custody under the Baker Act in ever increasing numbers,” said Diane Stein, President of CCHR Florida.

Even more disturbing is that some senior citizens who find themselves admitted for psychiatric evaluation are later informed that the criteria for Baker Acting was never met, that there was no evidence of mental illness, and instead it was found by clinical staff the victim simply needed rest, proper nutrition, or an adjustment to baseline medication. [3] [4]

But unnecessary Baker Acting isn’t the only abuse raising concern. Polypharmacy, the concurrent use of multiple medications, has doubled in the past decade among retirement-age Americans despite warnings from geriatric medical organizations. Reports show that the number of office visits resulting in multiple pharmaceutical prescriptions has risen from 1.5 million in 2004 to 3.68 million in 2013 — more than a 50% increase — with rural areas showing the largest increase. Those diagnosed with dementia are even more susceptible to polypharmacy and specifically psychotropic drugging. According to the Office of the Inspector General, 304,983 elderly nursing home residents in the U.S. were given dangerous and often deadly antipsychotic drugs, 88% of which were prescribed off-label for dementia. [5] [6]

In response, CCHR is calling for an investigation into the drugging and Baker Acting of the elderly in Florida and is asking for anyone who knows of such abuse to contact their office at 727-442-8820 or visit www.cchrflorida.org to report the abuse online.

About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969. For more information visit www.cchrflorida.org.

From its beginnings in the 1700s, using the practices of confining, restraining and isolating people with mental problems in institutions, psychiatrists have cashed in on human misery.”

CLEARWATER, FL, USA, February 20, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Comprised of 14 audiovisual displays revealing the hard facts about psychiatric abuses, the Psychiatry: An Industry of Death museum opened in Clearwater during the summer of 2015. The two-hour self-guided tour uses educational panels and videos created from interviews with over 160 doctors, attorneys, educators and survivors speaking out on abuse and fraud in the mental health industry. CCHR, a non-profit mental health watchdog dedicated to the eradication of abuses committed under the guise of mental health, opened the museum for the purpose of educating individuals on the history of psychiatry as well as their rights under the mental health law.

Among the more than 6,000 people that have toured the museum are psychiatric nursing students brought in by their professors to learn the truth about psychiatry. Additionally, students from nursing schools and technical colleges across the state come to the museum to go through the 2-hour self-guided tour as part of their clinical days finding the experience to be eye opening and informative.

The museum is open daily from 10am until 10pm and events on mental health rights, involuntary examination, psychiatric drug side effects and more are held weekly and monthly. Both are open to the general public and free of charge. For more information please call 727-442-8820 or visit www.cchrflorida.org.
