Why Actress, Lauren “Lolo” Spencer Deserves an Oscar Nomination?

The Multicultural International Motion Picture Association asks the hard questions to The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences regarding Actress, Lauren “Lolo” Spencer in her breakout role as the first African-American disabled lead female in “Give Me Liberty”, a wild ride, according to several film critics. Not since “Rocky” has a film received so many wonderful reviews. Will Oscar ignore this performance and other small budgeted independent films because, “Oscar’s So Rich”? Is there a place in Hollywood for disabled actors?

If we focus on the fact that this is Actress, Lauren “Lolo” Spencer’s first feature role, there is one thing that cannot be ignored, she delivers on all fronts in “Give Me Liberty”, and captivates the viewer with her abilities with such honesty in her role as Tracy the film’s leading female role, stated MIMPA President, Gail Gibson. Lolo, as she is fondly referred to, plays opposite Actor, Chris Galust, and other cast members who are virtually unknown.

Lauren braved the cold of Milwaukee, Wisconsin against all odds to make it clear that disabled artist exist and have a place in Hollywood. Stricken with ALS at the age of 14, Lauren Spencer has turned her disability into advocacy for the disabled, as she demonstrates on a daily basis her life with this disease, and although wheel-chair bound, watching her YouTube Channel “SittingPrettyLolo” or her Instagram “it’sLoloLove” have both garnered her a following, making her a champion and inspiration in the eyes of thousands of followers, proving that whether we are disabled or not, the one thing that connects us all, is that we are human.

Nominated for her role in “Give Me Liberty” in the Best-Supporting Actress category at the upcoming Film Independent Spirit Awards, where the movie has also garnered nods in three additional categories, Best Actor, Best Editor, and the Cassavetes Award, and she is slated to receive the Trailblazer Award at MIMPA’s 11th Annual Lady in Red Diamond Rose Awards Gala for her advocacy and her role in Give Me Liberty, February 21, 2020 in Beverly Hills.

Described by Manohla Dargis of the New York Times as hilarious, poignant, completely delightfully unpredictable”, it follows medical transport driver Vic, who agrees to deliver his Russian grandfather and émigré friends to a funeral, disrupting scheduled clients, particularly Tracy, a young black woman with ALS, played by Lauren “Lolo” Spencer. Vic’s day goes from hectic to off-the-rails as their collective ride becomes a hilarious, compassionate, intersectional portrait of America, that “celebrates the connective tissue of humanity” and “reaffirms the resilience of the American Dream”.

The ultra-low budget underdog of a film was made with non-professional local cast and shot entirely on location in Milwaukee, America’s most segregated city. “Give Me Liberty” premiered at and opened the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, also the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where it was received with an over 10-minute ovation. The film has been released in a number of countries, including France, where it has been playing to great critical and audience acclaim on 100 screens for five straight weeks.

Manohla Dargis describes, “Give Me Liberty” as “A JOLT OF A MOVIE, AN ANARCHIC DEADPAN COMEDY THAT EVOLVES INTO A ROMANCE JUST AROUND THE TIME THE STORY EXPLODES…. IT’S IRRESISTABLE”, while Variety calls it, “A BOISTEROUS, FREEWHEELING JOYRIDE”. RogerEbert.com hails it as, “ELECTRIC, A FRESH ALL-AMERICAN CROWD-PLEASER” and The Hollywood Reporter praised it as “EXHILARATING! ONE OF THE BEST OF SUNDANCE…. REAFFIRMS THE RESILIANCE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM”. –these are just a few of the worldwide reviews garnered by this incredible cast thus far, which makes it a “MUST SEE”.

The film features and includes a cast with some disabled individuals and stars, one of them being “Lauren “Lolo” Spencer”. RogerEbert.com put “Lauren “Lolo” Spencer on the list of ten best performances at Sundance, calling it “ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE…A SCENE STEALING STRAIGHT WOMAN AGAINST THE CHAOS OF THE OTHER RIDERS ON THE VAN”

Happy New Year and Tamils’ wish

Go around the world and ask the Tamils what is their need now. They will say that they need Vigneswaran-Ponnampalam's joint leadership.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Happy New Year and Tamils’ wish

We want to wish for a happy, healthy and prosperous year to our readers and the Tamils in the northeast and the rest of the world.

For the last last ten years, Tamil leadership enjoyed the perks given by Sri Lanka and forgot about the promise that they gave to the Tamils in their election manifesto.

The Tamil leadership weakened the Tamils and made the Tamils to lose their bargaining power. Their approach never brought any resolution or benefit for the Tamils.

It is time for the current elected leaders to go home and for different leaders to take control of the Tamils' political effort.

Therefore we wish to form a new leadership. Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam is a strong Tamil nationalist. We saw his action during the 13 points request from the presidential candidates.

It shows that Mr. Gajendrakumar is very knowledgeable and brave concerning the Tamils’ political future.

Former Chief justice and chief minister of the northern provincial council Mr. Vigneswaran's knowledge of our history and communication skills are also very important. He will be able to help explain to the world why Tamils need protection and self-rule.

Therefore our wish is that the two Tamil leaders should join together and take control of the Tamils’ future.

Go around the world and ask the Tamils what is their need now. Also travel around the North-east and ask the Tamils. They will say that they need Vigneswaran-Ponnampalam's joint leadership.

Let us pray to make our dream come true

Thank you,

Tamil Diaspora News: Person of the Year in 2020.

To remind the world the suffering of the Tamils, we would like to nominate the war criminal and monster Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the person of year for 2020.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The continuous struggle and suffering of the Tamils is not ending soon. The only way this can be solved is by finding justice for the Tamils who lost more than 145,000 loved ones and are still missing more than 25,000. The war created 90,000 widows and left 50,000 children orphaned. The Sinhalese must be held accountable.

The last government by the UNP was a fake. It said that it cared about the Tamils, but in practice it did the opposite. Since the UNP had Western connections, it was able to do anything and avoid international scrutiny.

The UNP government in the northeast instilled many racist Sinhalese Buddhist symbols, settled many more Sinhalese in the region, destroyed Hindu temples, and blocked any effort by the United Nations Human Rights Commission to investigate war crimes.

In addition, the elected Tamil MPs were bought by the Sinhalese government with perks and positions, including a mansion in Colombo-7 with many luxury cars for Tamil leader Mr. Sampanthan.

Tamil leaders in the name of reconciliation have given up on the northeast merger, federalism, and searching for missing people and international investigation of the Sri Lankan war crimes.

During the last government, all paths for the Tamils were blocked by the UNP and TNA.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa's visibility in Sri Lanka as the new president will shine a light on the war crimes and the necessity of a political settlement to protect the Tamils.

Even though Rajapaksa is a war criminal and engineered the mass killings and genocide of the Tamils, it is good to have such a figure in power so that every international player will remember the carnage that happened to the Tamils.

To remind the world the suffering of the Tamils, we would like to nominate the war criminal and monster President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the person of the year for 2020.

Mental Health Watchdog Calls for Investigation into Psychiatric Drugging of Millions of Children

Psychotropic drug use is much higher in America compared to other countries according to researchers who found that drug use was 3 times greater in the U.S.

Currently more than 7 million U.S. children are being prescribed psychiatric drugs and hundreds of thousands of these children are between the ages of zero to five.”

— Citizens Commission on Human Rights

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to researchers the use of psychotropic drugs in children was significantly greater in the U.S. compared to the Netherlands and Germany. Use of antidepressants and stimulants was 3 or more times greater in the U.S. (6.7%) than in the Netherlands (2.9%) and Germany (2.0%). Even more alarming is that these researchers found that, “stimulants were used at rates 10–25 times higher in American children 0–4 years old compared to the two Western European countries.” [1]

In response, the Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a non-profit mental health watchdog dedicated to protection of children, is calling for an investigation into the heavy psychiatric drugging of children.

Currently more than 7 million U.S. children are being prescribed psychiatric drugs and hundreds of thousands of these children are between the ages of zero to five. [2] Children are being drugged simply because psychiatry has pathologized normal childhood behaviors, and repackaged them as “mental disorders.” The result is that millions of children are being drugged for behaviors reclassified by psychiatry as “disease.”

In 2015, the research arm of Florida's child-protection system released a report revealing that foster children are being put on psychotropic medications without caregivers following proper procedures and that 11 percent of the children in foster care had active prescriptions for at least one psychotropic drug. While a review of 140 children's files showed just 20 percent of these children met all the key requirements for administering such medication. [3]

Following the tragic death of 7-year-old Gabriel Myers in 2009, who was found hanging from a shower fixture in his foster home after having been prescribed two “black box” drugs intended for adults – the Florida policies for using psychotropic drugs on foster kids were updated but this has not solved the problem.

The psychiatric drugging of children is not just confined to the foster care system. In 2011 a two-year investigation concluded that kids in Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oregon and Texas were “prescribed psychotropic drugs at rates 2.7 to 4.5 times higher than other children in Medicaid in 2008.” [4]

CCHR hopes that the December 2019 “groundbreaking” settlement of a civil rights lawsuit filed in Missouri, which alleged "a longstanding failure by the state to provide adequate oversight in the administration of powerful psychotropic medications to children in foster care", will also bring about much needed reform in Florida. [5] Individuals are invited to the center, located at 109 N. Fort Harrison Avenue in downtown Clearwater to learn more about the dangers associated with psychiatric drugs. To learn more, please call 727-442-8820 or visit www.cchrflorida.org.

About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, first brought psychiatric imprisonment to wide public notice: “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health,’” he wrote in March 1969.

In another development, this morning, defiant youth torched the paramilitary Bassij bases in Tehran, Karaj and Iranshahr, as well as a regime seminary in Tehran. In Mahshahr, Khamenei’s picture was set ablaze.

Yesterday, defiant youth also targeted the IRGC’s Khatam ol-Anbiya Construction Headquarters in Tehran. Today, the mullahs’ regime confirmed the attack, while trying to down play the assault to minimize its impact on the morale of its forces and agents. Quoting an “informed source,” the state-run Asr-e Khabar wrote, “Early morning yesterday, an unidentified man riding on a motorcycle threw a hand-grenade at the building… Given the available videos, his identity is under investigation.”

UAE Schools are experiencing The year of Tolerance through Virtual Reality

DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Establishing themselves as a vibrant, progressive society, the Middle East has laid special emphasis on equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. The leaders here understand that citizen participation and accountability in futuristic progress can be enhanced through a qualitative improvement in the education system. Consequently, the Middle East has become a flagbearer of innovation in education. Virtual Reality remains at the helm of these progressions, and it is being exhaustively deployed in schools.

Virtual Reality is also an active accomplice to spreading the UAE's message for tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and cultural awareness. The country is celebrating 2019 as the 'Year of Tolerance'. The Emiratis are showing the world how a progressive society like theirs, furthers a modern collaborative approach while staying in touch with its ethnicity.

In the last couple of years, many schools introduced VR to create a new learning environment alongside creating a culture of innovation and inquisitiveness. Educators switched to VR since it is an accessible way of involving the students in lessons while giving them access to the practical implementation of their learning. It has already been established that practical learning is the most effective method for student engagement. But the constraints of physical boundaries, investment, and resources limit its mainstreaming. This is where immersive learning techniques like Virtual Reality step up.

VR JOURNEY TO EXPLORE THE CULTURES OF THE WORLD

Interestingly, students and teachers are playing a vital role in this experience. Through VRXOne's ongoing 'Tolerance Program' the students are embarking on the discovery of enticing cultural experiences.

With expeditions to monuments that are a thousand years old like the Egyptian Pyramids, or to exploratory sites and museums at distant places, the students enrich themselves with inter-cultural wisdom. The virtual reality expeditions also allow students to empathize and experience how the kids in third world countries like Africa go to school and study. To establish friendlier relations within communities and strengthen the values of harmony, there are field trips through which students enjoy festivals of the world. It is such journeys that make us believe that the world is one big family. Through these expeditions, students realize the importance of acting collectively and individually, with complete transparency, consistency and fairness.

LEARN BASICS ABOUT RELIGIONS AND BELIEFS IN VR

Festivities and celebrations bring individuals closer. It is a pure delight to be a part of unique ceremonies; streets and towns adorned with flags, pictures, banners, and decorations. The world today is moving towards establishing a tolerant, co-existing society and the Pope's recent visit to the UAE is the one historic moment that has us propelled in the right direction. UAE is, indeed, an epitome of harmonious living where communities share their joys.

Thanks to Virtual Reality, children of the Middle East are now also well-acquainted with unique rituals of the world and learn to respect their differences gracefully. From visualizing the fun and frolic of Diwali to being a part of the Halloween amusements, everything is near to reality. For the non-muslim users of Virtual Reality, it is now more accessible than ever to understand the Islamic faith and experience the festivals like Eid through immersive visuals.

WHY STUDENTS LOVE VR – IT IS FUN & MAKES THEM CONFIDENT

For students, the VR class is a delightful time when they’re en route to their favorite voyage. When asked, a student from…. school explains his experience of using Virtual Reality.
“Virtual Reality makes me feel involved in the environment like I am a part of it. It’s like being featured in a game. I was struggling with concepts like the anatomy of the nervous system and muscular system. With Virtual Reality, it became easy to view these lessons.”, says a student of GEMS Education, Dubai.
As becomes conclusive, many students view VR as a game. And it is rightly so!
Virtual Reality is an improvised version of practical learning. Additionally, the fact that it is interactive and fun makes it all the more attractive to students. It is also much more accessible, scalable, immersive and affordable with a one-time investment.

Introducing Virtual Reality in regional schools has been a commendable transformation. But there are some places where VR lessons are even more meaningful. These are the regions where people cannot afford quality education. For many of these students, visiting places like Wonders of the World is a far-fetched dream.
The good news is that many of these students have realized this dream through Virtual Reality. While students of the region experienced VR Expeditions with the leading immersive learning program – VRXOne, many of the underprivileged students also tried their hands on the technology. Amongst these were some students who overcame the shackles of physical and mental disabilities to experience distraction-free learning.

While 2018 was an important period for maturation and mainstreaming of Virtual Reality in the classroom, 2019 is the year for greater strides.

Church of Scientology of Utah Celebrates Religious Freedom

Members of the community gathered at the Church of Scientology to affirm their belief in the right for everyone to believe and practice their faith as they see fit.

Human Rights celebration at the Church of Scientology of Salt Lake City focused on religious freedom as a precious right.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Members of The Church of Scientology and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered at the Church of Scientology of Salt Lake City, Utah, to celebrate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The event focused on Article 18:

“Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.”

Article 18 is one of 30 articles that describe the basic rights belonging to every member of the human family. But the program pointed out that this right is under attack from various sources today.

In 1976, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard noted that attacks on organized religion were at the root of the deterioration in the ethics in society and the consequent increase in crime and drug abuse. He wrote that these attacks had “a fundamental target: the spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self-respect and peace of mind. This black propaganda may have been so successful that maybe you no longer believe you have a spiritual nature that I assure you you do.”

Another challenge to religious freedom, covered in a recent article in Deseret News, is religious repression: “Contrary to popular belief, religious persecution is alive and well around the world. More than 80 percent of the global population lives in religiously restrictive environments, according to Pew Research Center.”

Steven Russell, a Salt Lake City attorney, talked about the increase of religious attacks and the need for religions to stand together. He ended his speech with the famous words of Pastor Martin Niemoller who was incarcerated in a Nazi concentration camp in WWII:

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

He was followed by Ms. Seretta Hart, President of the Relief Society for the local ward of the LDS Church. Ms. Hart described the role of the Relief Society and highlighted the important work carried out by members of her church in giving assistance to those in need.

Sandra Lucas, Public Affairs Director of the Church of Scientology of Utah, gave everyone in the audience a Youth for Human Rights International booklet called "What are Human Rights?" Youth for Human Rights is a human rights initiative supported by Scientologists and the Church of Scientology. As a Scientologist who has traveled to numerous countries around the world to teach human rights to military organizations and university students, the subject of human rights is very dear to Mrs. Lucas, who said, “Every person should be treated with dignity and their rights must be upheld.”

Those attending the celebration, though members of different faiths, realized the common ground they as religious individuals share.

L. Ron Hubbard set forth the beliefs of the Church of Scientology on the subject of religious freedom and human rights in the Scientology Prayer for Total Freedom:

“We pray that human rights will be preserved so that all people may believe and worship freely, so that freedom will once again be seen in our land.

“Freedom from war, and poverty, and want; freedom to be; freedom to do and freedom to have.

“Freedom to use and understand Man’s potential—a potential that is God-given and Godlike.

“And freedom to achieve that understanding and awareness that is Total Freedom.

“May God let it be so.”

At a forum at the Church of Scientology Seattle, the local chapter of Youth for Human Rights takes up human trafficking in Washington State.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Youth for Human Rights Seattle Chapter organized a community open house at the Church of Scientology in commemoration of International Human Rights Day. It highlighted human trafficking and hate crimes.

A special agent of the Seattle FBI Field Office was the featured speaker who underscored the problem of human trafficking in the area, noting that the crime of slavery is a major problem in cities across the U.S. and globally.
According to Washington’s Office of the Attorney General, Washington state “is a hotbed for the recruitment, transportation, and sale of people for labor.” In 2003 “Washington was the first state to pass a law criminalizing human trafficking and we have the most stringent law in the country.” Seattle is “part of a trafficking circuit that can include Honolulu, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Portland, Vancouver (Clark County), Yakima and Canada.”

Earlier this year, Seattle police “rescued 26 women after a three-and-a-half-year human trafficking investigation into massage parlors across the city. After receiving dozens of complaints, police investigated 11 businesses and arrested six people for promoting prostitution and money laundering.” The Seattle Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The director of Youth for Human Rights Seattle spoke of the theme for this year’s Human Rights Day, “Youth Standing Up for Human Rights,” and the UN’s aims: “to celebrate the potential of youth as constructive agents of change, amplify their voices, and engage a broad range of global audiences in the promotion and protection of rights.”

“Youth for Human Rights educates children about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and inspires them to become advocates for tolerance and peace,” she said. “Children of every ethnic and socioeconomic background can be trapped into human trafficking and it is vital that they are educated on human rights so they can protect themselves and their friends from becoming victims.”

With the UN’s 90-page “Global Trafficking in Persons” report released earlier this year stressing that human trafficking of girls is on the rise, Youth for Human Rights has ramped up its efforts to reach educators by exhibiting and distributing free materials in conferences in Washington State so that they can reach as many youth as possible with the message of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In 1969, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “Very few governments have implemented any part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These governments have not grasped that their very survival depends utterly upon adopting such reforms and thus giving their peoples a cause, a civilization worth supporting, worth their patriotism.”

The Church of Scientology and Scientologists support Youth for Human Rights and make its educational materials available free of charge. Watch a documentary on the history and activities of Youth for Human Rights International on Voices for Humanity on the Scientology Network.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, December 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Iranian regime foreign minister, Javad Zarif, is scheduled to attend a meeting on multilateralism in New York on January 9, 2020. This trip comes at a time where the regime is utterly rejected by the people of Iran in nationwide protests across 191 cities and towns since November 15, 2019. The disgraced Zarif represents a brutal regime responsible for killing more than 1,500 people in recent weeks. More than 12,000 people have been arrested but the protests continue even during the memorial services across Iran. Chanting “down with the dictator,” the people of Iran denounce the regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and its president, Hassan Rouhani.
Blacklisted by the US State Department, Zarif personifies a terrorist regime whose crimes against humanity is seen in the 1988 massacre of 30,000 political prisoners. He represents a regime with the highest record of terrorist activities and proxy wars around the world. With such abhorring record of violence and terror, his visit is an affront to the entire framework of the United Nations.
The U.S. State Department must deny visa to Javad Zarif. This would be a strong message to the people of Iran, especially those who lost their loved ones during the recent protests, as well as a clear message to the Iranian regime that the world no longer tolerates its killings inside Iran and terrorism abroad.
Zarif and his regime do not represent the people of Iran. Iran’s UN seat belongs to the people of Iran who stand for humanity, peace, justice and freedom.
