It’s time to be more inclusive and support people of color

Out of more than one hundred thousand veterinarians in the United States, less than two percent are Hispanic and almost none are Black.”

— CARE Data

BALTIMORE, MD, UNITED STATES, January 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Companions and Animals for Reform and Equity (CARE) is proud to announce a bold new initiative and a series of events to help animal loving people of color pursue their dreams of helping cats, dogs and other living creatures.

CARE is partnering with the Black DVM Network, the National Association for Black Veterinarians and several other animal welfare organizations to raise money that will start a seed fund for scholarships for African American veterinary students. Maddie’s Fund®, a national family foundation established by Dave and Cheryl Duffield to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals, announced today they will lead off the fundraising effort with a $50,000 grant to start the endowment. The effort also has the support of New York Giants Cornerback Logan Ryan, who himself is passionate about diversity in animal welfare and has his own foundation called RARF, or the Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation.

The scholarship initiative comes at a critical time, as out of more than one hundred thousand veterinarians in the United States, 90 percent are white, less than two percent are Hispanic and almost none are Black.

The scholarship will be named after the late Dr. Jodie G. Blackwell, a veterinary trailblazer who graduated in the second class of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University in 1950. He opened a thriving private practice in Southeast Oklahoma while working relentlessly to advance civil rights. He was also appointed to the Oklahoma Civil Rights Commission by the Governor. Dr. Blackwell continued his private practice for 18 years and joined the faculty at Tuskegee University, where he spent the last 25 years of his professional life.

Dr. Blackwell’s son Michael followed in his father’s footsteps and was one of four students to integrate Gray High School in Idabel, Okla. CARE recognizes the legacy of this family and the importance of access and awareness. Dr. Michael Blackwell is currently the only second- generation Tuskegee veterinary graduate. He is now the Director of Pet Health Equity at the University of Tennessee.

In celebration of Black History Month and to kick off the scholarship fund, CARE will be hosting weekly talks with a panel of African American professionals, including New York Giants player Logan Ryan, who will discuss the issues they face inside and outside the animal welfare industry.

CARE invites everyone to join these conversations, led by our Chief Executive Officer James Evans. In lieu of a registration fee, the public is asked to donate to the new CAREvetFund.

Since then, the Foundation has awarded more than $208.9 million in grants toward increased community lifesaving, shelter medicine education and pet adoptions and foster Companions and Animals for Reform Equity across the U.S. The Duffields named Maddie’s Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie, who made them laugh and gave them great joy.

Sindhi Foundation sent a letter to President Joe Biden

Sindhi Foundation’s Letter to President Joe Biden

Sindhis raised issues of human rights abuses and climate crisis in Sindh, Pakistan in the letter.

Citizens of the United States care greatly about global human rights, and hope that before supporting the Pakistani government, the Biden administration will check the Pakistan's human rights record.”

— Munawar Laghari

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, January 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Friday, January 29th, the Sindhi Foundation sent a letter to President Joe Biden addressing the human rights abuses and environmental issues occurring within the Sindh Province of Pakistan.

In the letter, the Sindhi Foundation highlighted the current construction of a Chinese-backed dam on the Indus River in Pakistan. Pakistani Prime minister Imran Khan’s Government is in the midst of building Bhasha dam on the Indus River with China’s investment of $5.85 billion. The location of the dam is a notorious hotspot for earthquakes. With this in mind, many fear that the construction of the dam could result in an environmental disaster, leading to further changes in the entire ecosystem of Sindh, particularly within the delta region.

Executive Director of the Sindhi Foundation, Munawar Laghari, stated “ the Indus River is the lifeline of Sindh and the only source of water. Building dams on the Indus River will be disastrous for the Sindhi people." He added that the ecological deterioration of the Province could have a significant impact on the rest of the country, as well as on its neighboring states, seeing as the "Sindh has great historical, cultural, political, and geographical importance."

The Sindhi Foundation's letter also brought to light the recent violent attack on peaceful protesters of enforced disappearances in Sindh. Protestors, many of whom were women, were beaten, dragged by their hair, arrested, and put in chains by Pakistani authorities. “Citizens of the United States care greatly about global human rights, and hope that before supporting the Pakistani government, the Biden administration will check the Pakistan's human rights record. Human rights abuses in Pakistan have increased significantly in the last decades, particularly in Sindh.” Laghari said.

The letter ends with a request for support for the Sindhi Foundation's Long Walk for Freedom, Nature, and Love. The walk is scheduled to take place in April 2021, with the intent to raise awareness for climate change and human rights abuses. The walk includes a core group of participants that will begin in New York City and end in Washington, D. C.

The walk intends to gain support from students, activists, members of the media, academics, the UN Missions, and members of Congress. It aims to send a message of global unity and strength, and remind the Sindhi people in Pakistan that they are not alone in the fight against human rights violations, and environmental destruction.

The Sindhi Foundation has already received endorsements from many organizations and celebrities. They continue to encourage human rights organizations and public figures to support this important cause.

The Sindhi Foundation congratulates President Joe Biden for his win and hopes that he can meet with Sindhi Foundation members to further discuss these issues.

DSAA, GiGi's Playhouse Atlanta, and NDSC Condemn Statement Made by
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA)

The Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta, Gigi's Playhouse Atlanta, and the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) strongly disagree with the decision of House Republicans to appoint Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to the House Education and Labor Committee due to her history of conspiracy theories around school shootings and use of the word "retard” as a pejorative term. "The Down syndrome and disabilities communities are concerned that Rep. Greene's verbiage will distract from the committee's work and that her words truly reflect outdated, damaging beliefs that will negatively impact students with intellectual developmental disabilities (I/DD) for years to come," states Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta Executive Director, Sheryl Arno.

Recently a video that Rep. Greene posted prior to taking office has resurfaced on social media platforms. In her video, Rep. Greene, when speaking of other elected officials, says, "Stupid simple – Retards; I'm sorry, I know that is an offensive word. I am not trying to talk down on people with Down syndrome, but that's what these people are. These people are so stupid and ignorant that they cannot put something common sense in place."

Rep. Greene's statements are particularly damaging to individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual or developmental disabilities as they are more likely to be victims of bullying. Her words promote a culture of casual cruelty toward people with disabilities. NDSC Executive Director David Tolleson said, "Men, women, and children with Down syndrome should never be used as a punch line to make points in a political debate." He continued, "They are people who deserve respect and dignity. Rep. Greene's comments send a message to students, parents, and educators that she believes people with disabilities are not capable of decision-making. Her words and beliefs are a slap in the face to people with disabilities and we do not support her appointment to the Education and Labor Committee."

Canada's Foreign Minister Marc Garneau Urged to Refer Sri Lanka to International Criminal Court by Disappered Families

Canada’s Foreign Minister Marc Garneau

"We specifically urge you this request after losing any hope to get justice for our disappeared relatives including our disappeared babies and children"

Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, urged UN Human Rights Council Member States to take steps to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

— Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

OTTAWA, CANADA , January 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ —

In a letter to Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau, Families of the Disappeared have urged him to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Canada is taking a leadership role on Sri Lanka at the upcoming 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva in February / March 2021.

Recently, Michelle Bachelet, the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in her Report dated 12th January 2021 urged UN Human Rights Council Member States to take steps toward the referral of the situation in Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"Since you are a member of the Sri Lanka Core-Group at the UN Human Rights Council, we from the families of the disappeared are writing ahead of the 46th session of the Council, to respectfully appeal to you to include in your Sri Lanka Resolution, to Refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC)" said the letter.

"We specifically urge you this request after losing any hope to get justice for our disappeared relatives including our disappeared babies and children. As you are aware, UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances stated that the second highest number of enforced disappearance cases in the world is from Sri Lanka" continued the letter.

The letter outlined history of false promises by successive Sri Lankan Governments and Background on International Crimes Committed in Sri Lanka.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS:

1) According to the March 2011 Report of the UN Secretary General’s Panel of Experts on Accountability in Sri Lanka stated that there were credible allegations that war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed during the final stages of the armed conflict between
the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, and there could have been as many as 40,000 Tamil civilian deaths in the final six months.

2) According to the November 2012 Report of the UN Secretary-General’s Internal Review Panel on UN Action in Sri Lanka, over 70,000 people were unaccounted for during the final phase of the war in 2009.

3) Several were killed when Sri Lankan forces repeatedly bombed and shelled an area designated by the Government as No Fire Zones (Safe zones). Even hospitals and food distribution centers were bombed. Several also died of starvation and bled to death due to lack of medical treatment.

4) International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP) in February 2017 handed over details to UN of Sri Lankan Military run "Rape Camps", where Tamil women are being held as “sex slaves.”

5) According to UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office report on April 2013, there are over 90,000 Tamil war widows in Sri Lanka.

6) Thousands of Tamils disappeared including babies and children. UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances stated that the second highest number of enforced disappearance cases in the world is from Sri Lanka.

Marc Garneau
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Canada

Dear Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs,

Re: Appeal to include in the Resolution on Sri Lanka to Refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Since you are a member of the Sri Lanka Core-Group at the UN Human Rights Council, we from the families of the disappeared are writing ahead of the 46th session of the Council, to respectfully appeal to you to include in your Sri Lanka Resolution, to Refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

As you are aware, Michelle Bachelet, the United Nation’s High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in her Report dated 12th January 2021 urged UN Human Rights Council Member States to take steps toward the referral of the situation in Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

We specifically urge you this request after losing any hope to get justice for our disappeared relatives including our disappeared babies and children. As you are aware, UN Working Group on Enforced Disappearances stated that the second highest number of enforced disappearance cases in the world is from Sri Lanka.

HISTORY OF FALSE PROMISES BY THE SRI LANKAN GOVERNMENT:

We also would like to bring to your attention that successive Sri Lankan Governments have failed to implement any of the UNHRC Resolutions, including the ones they voluntarily co-sponsored.

Previous Government not only failed to take any meaningful steps to implement the Resolution that it co-sponsored, on the contrary the President, Prime Minister and senior members of the Government have repeatedly and categorically stated that they will not implement the UNHRC Resolution.

The current new Government went one step further and officially withdrew from the co-sponsorship of the Resolutions 30/1, 34/1 and 40/1 and walked away from UNHRC accountability process.

Furthermore, as a snub to UNHRC, only soldier who was ever punished and sentenced to death for killing civilians including children was pardoned by the current President.

Also, several senior military officials who were credibly accused of committing war crimes have been given promotions and treated as “war heroes.” One officer who was named in UN reports as a suspected war criminal was promoted as a four-star General.

BACKGROUND ON INTERNATIONAL CRIMES COMMITTED IN SRI LANKA:

According to the March 2011 Report of the UN Secretary General’s Panel of Experts on Accountability in Sri Lanka stated that there were credible allegations that war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed during the final stages of the armed conflict between

NEW YORK, January 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Brainiac Productions LLC, Christopher William Mahne and Sir David Michael Robinson today announced their intent to release chapter previews serially over the coming months, in both print and audio formats.

“As our story preview campaign on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and audio content on Soundcloud has driven such incredible audience engagement, we’ve decided to expand the outreach, providing fans the entire 33 Chapters of BINGE.” according to Robinson.
As one reviewer put it best, “BINGE reminds us that there is such an importance in words. The ‘psycho-biography’ novel requires us to go deep or go home. This story of CW’s transcendence is set to a psychedelic narrative pulse, enriched by Grangita artwork that channels its lavish dreamscapes.”

The Death of a Child Predator

Survivor / Author

What happens when a child predator dies? A victim's forthright response after decades of terror.

There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

— Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa

WASHINGTON D.C., USA, January 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — My first question when I received the call was, “When did she pass?” Knowing the date would seal her death—make it real and final. When I heard the answer, the corners of my mouth slowly lifted up. I had waited decades for that call. Wanting her life to be done – and the last piece of my physical and mental suffering to finally be over. Ninety-one years she took to pass. Today, it was finally over. My predator was dead. I looked at my husband and he knew “the day” had finally come. I was free. Free in a way I couldn’t be until she physically died.

The agony of daily sadistic abuse and attempts to end my life from six months to 17 years old drove me as a five-year child to the curb of my house. I hoped for a car to come by fast enough to jump in front of and end my life. I wanted peace and never to be touched again by my birth mother or her cohorts. I looked up into the huge blue sky. In my innocence I wondered, how big was it and who made it? Was there someone bigger than those who were hurting me?

Then, I heard a voice say, “This is not the plan I have for you. Suicide is not the answer.” I knew it was the voice of God though I barely knew who God was. At the age of five, how could I have known the word ‘suicide’ and understood what it meant? I trusted that voice.

Mercifully, no cars came by and I retreated to the garage. Leaning against the door, I was disappointed I had to go back inside. I cried out loud to that invisible voice, “If you keep me alive, I’ll do whatever you call me to do.” I had no idea how long the years would be or how much suffering I would endure. I simply believed that voice; that I had a purpose in life.

When a predator dies, there are residual effects. I have been processing the death of all the ugliness, the shame I spent decades resolving, and the pain of healing through faith, extensive therapy, and trial-by-life. The body has memories that can get triggered by unexpected images in movies or something somebody says. It can be devastating. For a victim, it is the unending paradox of wanting to be genuinely loved as a human being and not wanting anyone to get too close to cause you harm.

In order to survive, I had to mask those thoughts and memories. I wore a never-ending “game face” throughout multiple careers so no one would see my inner pain and shame. I wore that game face through an abusive first marriage and even at church. I wore it to hide the irreconcilable truth that my birth mother was a violent abuser, a monster.

My predator lurked in the shadows of my life. The terror she caused me continued even as she aged. I didn’t pray for her death. I left it to God. I wanted to close that horrific chapter in my life. All of the victims I have worked with share a common desire. They want their predator or predators locked up in jail – or dead.

My experience has enabled me to recognize that “mask” on many of the victims I have rescued. It is their protection, whether I have found them on the street or in a homeless shelter. I have been able to help many young victims “lift the mask” so they can see another way for their life. Finally, they have found someone they can genuinely trust.

For those of you blessed with a safe life, here is the depth of the violence caused by my birth mother, my primary sexual predator. She corralled my birth father, birth brother, and a few extended family members to cause me unspeakable suffering.

My first memory at 3 years old was of her chasing me through the house with a meat cleaver, screaming that she would cut me up if I touched her wallpaper. Years later, she locked me in my room for three months of summer allowing only dinner and bathroom breaks. Horrifying as that was, the worst was that she invited others to brutally physically, sexually and mentally abuse me. The last time she tried to choke me to death, I was 17.

Familial predators are a constant. You can’t escape them. They are your family. Their main focus is to use every opportunity to force their child victim into submission in every possible way. They control everything. They are protected by the fact that they share a bloodline.

My decades of experience working with victims of child abuse has shown that family members or others outside the home who suspect, will rarely speak up for the child. Familial abuse continues across the generations of a bloodline. The ivid memories of a brutally abused victim will take them back to the age they were when those violations occurred.

There is hope. Graham Greene said, “There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in.” My life is committed to making sure that when the door opens, it leads to help, healing, and hope for child victims. One person can end abuse for a child. Be that person. Hurting an innocent child is never okay. If you or a child you know needs help, call 1-800-422-4453. Save a life.

Key Capital to Distribute Novel Immune Supplement Globally

Key Capital to Launch its Promising Oral Pill Therapeutic which is to be Marketed as a Supplement

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, January 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — KEY CAPITAL CORPORATION (OTC Pink: KCPC) advises that as SARS-CoV-2 continues to spread, and reports of increases in daily infections, hospitalizations, and deaths are becoming regular, Key Capital plans to market its Immunitor partnered potentially therapeutic oral pill as a supplement commencing early February.

Immunitor’s proprietary and novel HapV+ ionic magnesium supplement, coupled with the patented Immunitor oral pill composition and delivery method, assures delivery of this powerful magnesium to the gut mucosa without degradation for optimal immune system benefit.

Company Chairman, Peter Boonen today stated, “Magnesium is critical for and supports healthy immunity, and we have significant expectancy for our unique immunity supplement. However, it’s important to understand that this supplement is not a medicine or treatment for COVID-19 or any disease or other medical condition.”

The body’s immune system in all cases is its first line of defense against infection by viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens, and magnesium is one of the immune system's critically needed minerals. It is widely reported that around 50% of the western population is deficient in magnesium, which in turn means their immune systems are likely compromised to some degree – this gets worse with age and is why older people are more at risk where exposed to infection.

It is also known that the body immune system, as well as magnesium independently, supports natural ribosome instruction that helps to create, repair, and protect DNA and proteins. So introducing the powerful Immunitor proprietary ionic form of magnesium directly to the heart of the immune system, the gut mucosa, may well support natural immunity function. Preliminary independent laboratory tissue culture testings have also affirmed that HapV+ may strengthen antiviral defense.

Immunitor has already started production of the proprietary HapV+ magnesium at their GMP facility, and although early supplies will be limited, marketing is expected to commence globally by mid-February 2021.

Key Capital Corporation:
The Company’s focus is on the further development of its oral pill therapeutic vaccines through its Key Biotec and Immunitor partnering, particularly on advancing the highly-promising FDA Orphan Drug Designated V5 HCC liver cancer candidate. Additionally, where products can be marketed as supplements, the Company will actively explore these options.

26 Absurdities of Tragic Proportions

Childhood Hunger is Everyone's Problem. Buy a Book, Feed a Child.

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, January 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — When author Matthew C. Woodruff was growing up, he and his four siblings were poor. “Though my mother tried her best to provide, and we did receive food assistance, there wasn’t always enough, and we had to rely on the help of relatives. I truly believe that children should never have to be hungry,” Woodruff says.

That is why Woodruff will donate all proceeds from the sale of his two books, 26 Absurdities of Tragic Proportions and Tales from the Aether -the Best Short Stories of 2020 to the non-profit organization No Kid Hungry the whole month of February, as he has for the past two years.

No Kid Hungry is a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. No Kid Hungry helps to provide school breakfast, summer and afterschool meals, food skills education, research and policy, and advocacy.

Woodruff’s 26 Absurdities of Tragic Proportions is the companion stories to Edward Gorey’s alphabetized and macabre Gashlycrumb Tinies and, hilariously at times, details the events leading up to the final depiction in Gorey’s drawings. 26 Absurdities was a finalist in the 2019 American Fiction Awards.

Tales from the Aether is a compilation of 14 unusual tales ranging from the outrageous to the incomprehensible happenings in the protagonists lives, primarily set around various holidays. Tales from the Aether was a finalist in the 2020 International Book Awards for Fiction: Short Stories.

Both of Woodruff’s books are available online in paperback or any Ebook format anywhere books are purchased or can be ordered from any bookstore. 26 Absurdities in hardcover is exclusively sold through Barnes and Noble. Inscribed and signed copies are also available through Woodruff’s website, MattWoodruffAuthor.com.

Author Matthew C. Woodruff believes strongly in combatting childhood hunger and urges readers to buy a book and help feed a child.
